Some Poseyville residents frustrated with drainage issues | News
POSEYVILLE, IN (WFIE)- Drainage issues in Poseyville have some residents very frustrated, especially those living on the southeast side of town.
14 News is told about 25% of the drainage issues in Poseyville have been right here on South Sharp Street. Neighbors here say they've definitely taken notice.
"I've lived here for about four years, and it's been a problem since I've been here," Jenkins said.
Lora Jenkins has seen up to four inches of water collect right next to her house.
Sometimes it comes up, just about level with the porch," Jenkins said.
On Sharp Street, that's not too bad. This neighbor told 14 News when it rains, it's like a swimming pool at her house.
"One is taken from the driveway of a house and it's surrounded completely by water. The other two are showing the fire truck down there pumping out water from the yards," Bruce Baker said.
Town Council President Bruce Baker says the drainage issues have affected the southeast side of town, and lately, it's gotten worse.
"Because of some of the construction that's went on and also the abandonment of the railroad track. We don't have the ditches along the railroad tracks we've had in the past," Baker said.
Now, town council has hired HWC Engineering out of Terre Haute to see what needs fixed.
"Definitely something that's needed," Jenkins said.
As far as money goes, Baker says grant money is really their only option.
"We don't have any money available for that size of project in town funds, so the grant is about the only way we can go," Baker said.
The engineering report is being completed.
