New Harmony school fate still undecided | News
New Harmony Town and Township School is on the verge of closure, and with that comes talks of consolidation.
School officials tell 14 News that they've been discussing closing the school for a few years now, for a number of reasons.
Enrollment has dropped in Posey County schools overall, but it had the most impact on New Harmony because it's the smallest, with just over 130 students. Also, the school district's state funding for 2012 is set to be cut by a third.
Now, North Posey schools are looking into a merger. The superintendent there tells 14 News that consolidating would be a win-win.
"It gives the North Posey School District another really nice town to add into the corporation, and it also gives them a very solid school corporation to be able to advertise to attract people to their town," said Superintendent Todd Camp.
School officials say public opinion will continue to be heard until December 8th.
