Invisible state lines on Ohio River cause confusing boating laws

Invisible state lines on Ohio River cause confusing boating laws

It's the eve of Memorial Day weekend and many of you will be letting loose on the river.

But if you're planning on drinking, there are some public intoxication laws that may surprise you. The weather is shaping up to make a nice Memorial Day weekend, and that means the Ohio River will be full of people on their boats.

DNR will be checking for three main things: making sure each boat has life jackets, that the boat is registered and that the drivers aren't drunk.

Since there are no lanes on the river, officers will be checking for unnecessary behavior like getting up close to another boat too fast and causing a large wake.

McNamara confident Posey County will find replacement for scrapped Midwest Fertilizer project

Governor Mike Pence announced last week that Indiana has withdrawn the incentives the state offered to Midwest Fertilizer Company to build a fertilizer plant in Posey County.

The Fatima Group, a Pakistan-based fertilizer company, owns 48 percent of Midwest Fertilizer Company.

In December 2012, Lt. Gen. Michael Barbero, the director of the U.S. Department of Defense's Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, testified before the U.S. Senate that Fatima Group had been "less than cooperative" in efforts to reduce the improvised explosive device (IED) threat in Central and South Asia.

EXCLUSIVE: Woman believes Mt. Vernon fire that killed family members was no accident

MT. VERNON, IN (WFIE)-

For the first time, a Posey County woman who lost three family members in a fire earlier this year, is speaking out and making a shocking allegation.

The shell of that home is still standing on Tuesday night. Fire investigators ruled the fire accidental, saying it started in the dryer.
But now, a woman who was inside this home when the fire broke out refuses to believe what happened was an accident.

"We lost everything. A big chunk of our family," Lana Robb says,

Air quaility low on Sunday

Air quaility low on Sunday

Although there was no official alert, air pollution was higher than normal in areas of the tri-state on Sunday.

Relatively light winds and a stagnant air mass led to a build-up of particulate matter.  The conditions created very hazy conditions and reached the Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups category for a while Sunday afternoon.

When air quality is low, you should reduce your exposure to outdoor pollutants, especially if you have medical issues.  Air quality could once again suffer on Monday, although rain moving in by Tuesday will help clean up the skies.

Governor Pence withdraws state incentives for Posey County fertilizer company project

MT. VERNON, IN (WFIE)- Some Posey County residents are relieved to hear that Governor Pence has pulled the incentive package that would have allowed the construction of a fertilizer plant.

"Our welfare, our air we breathe, our safety is much more important than the jobs," says Governor Mike Pence.

The Pakistan-based Fatima group still hopes a deal can be reached and economic leaders in Posey County aren't ready to close the books on the plant.
